DJ Vasile

Mention DJ Vasile to any Romanian with at least a little appetite for underground music and you’ll definitely get a reaction. He is one of the most influential names of electronic music in Romania, priding himself with a career of over 25 years and a constant preocupation for the fusion of genres and the sarcasm of the message.

He emerged as a DJ right after the Revolution in ’89 and almost immediately began his work at the radio, which continued until 2013. His projects overlap in 1992 when he begins a project with Radio Nova. In 1998 he launches yet another radio show, “Zona Libera”, at Pro FM, which will turn out to become a golden classic. Out of his perpetual search for innovative communication channels, in 2004 he moves “Zona Libera” to Radio Guerrilla where he continues weekly until the radio shuts down in 2013. His radio work has always blended with his acitvity as a performer, and his DJ career reflects a natural aptitude to make people dance, a characteristic that will build him a huge fanbase in Romania and abroad. Another project that stands out in his story is the famous Shukar Collective, which was thought of and founded by DJ Vasile. He was also actively involved in their performances, being the DJ of the eclectic romany ethno group.

An artist lives as longs as he reinvents himself and DJ Vasile is as versatile, eclectic and provoking as it gets. This is mainly due to his musical evolution, starting with Alternative Rock, Punk, New Wave and going to Techno, Drum & Bass, Dub and Dubstep, a style that is recently the foundation of his selection.

Good things take time and dedication and the 25+ years of music and life have built around DJ Vasile. Alongside his daring sets and the ability to surprise with every track, but also the subtextual irony of his selection, these make DJ Vasile stand out as a clear, distinct and inhibition-free voice.
